The big hatchback opens wide to the cargo area, while lift-over height at the rear bumper is not much taller than a midsize sedan's. However, its sheetmetal is more like the current accord, thanks to revisions for 2013. Honda has said it's more rugged looking, presumably because there's more black plastic in the fascia at the front, rear and rocker panels. We don't get rugged out of that. But we do see a cleaner shape at the nose, thanks to its mimicking the latest accord.  two engines are available. Lanewatch is included with the ex v6.  all-wheel drive, which honda calls real time 4wd, only comes with the ex-l v6 35,140) or ex-l navigation v6 37,240). Every v6 model has18-inch alloy wheels with p225/60r18 all-season tires.  safety equipment on all models includes six airbags, electronic stability control, abs with ebd, tire pressure monitor, active front headrests, and side impact beams. Available safety features include lane departure warning (ldw), forward collision warning (fcw), and lanewatch blind-spot display. It's similar to the bmw x6, but swoopier. One long character groove extends from the top of the front fenders through the door handles, climbing slightly to the taillights, contributing to the vision of the raised rear. The roofline flows in the opposite direction, its slope so long and shallow that the vast rear glass seems almost flat. A black spoiler contains the horizontal brake lights, but it's lost in the tinted privacy glass.  the hips appear huge, like no midsize car we know. The fascia below the front bumper contains a horizontal stretch of black plastic with a silver-colored faux skid plate. Add mesh around the foglights, and it all looks cheap.  the pillars are blacked out, and a chrome rim surrounds the glass. The rear corner is a sharp triangle following the roofline, back behind the c-pillar, where there are no passengers to look out the tinted glass triangle.  we wonder what it would do to the car's lines if there were no chrome. The seats were not too firm, not too soft, not too wide, and not too flat. Rear-seat headrests have been tweaked to improve this, but it's still bad, because of the roofline and the obstructive horizontal bar at the deck. That's structurally necessary, because of all the glass (it contains the chmsl brake lights). It's annoying, if not unsafe. We don't know what can be done about it, in a car with this much glass in back. The toyota prius has the same problem.  what we liked second-least was the complicated radio tuning. We think it's a dastardly plot by manufacturers, because nowadays it seems they're all like that. Not to mention non-intuitive thinking. The distraction is dangerous.  instrumentation is clean. The speedometer and tachometer contain crisp, white numbers on a black face, with nice silver rings that change colors at night, into a moody electric blue. That information should be displayed in a smaller box ahead of the driver's eyes. On the nav screen, it takes up more space than needed.  the standard rearview camera is nice and clear, but the optional/upgrade lanewatch blind-spot display malfunctioned on us. In the couple years since these systems were invented, we've gotten hundreds of warnings in cars we've driven, every single one of them false alarms. The basic problem is sensitivity. 2014 honda odyssey review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It even comes with a vacuum cleaner. introductionthe honda odyssey is about function and making family life easier. It can carry a family of eight, or half a high-school soccer team, with all their coolers, balls, tents, shoes, whatever. It can tow a small trailer with a motorcycle or watercraft. Odyssey can carry 4x8 plywood flat on the floor, with 10-foot-long boards can be stacked on them, extending between the front seats when the convenient removable console is taken out. Best of all, it's loaded with conveniences designed to simplify life.  the honda odyssey was thoroughly redesigned and re-engineered for the 2011 model year, marking a new generation of one of america's favorite multi-purpose vehicles.  for 2014, odyssey gets minor tweaks to trim that freshen its appearance. Noteworthy equipment updates include bluetooth and pandora as standard equipment and the industry's only built-in vacuum cleaner, which works better than any cordless vacuum we've used and better than most corded handhelds. And the 2014 odyssey is safer yet, with more warning systems and driver assists, a benefit of its revised structure for 2014. It is the first van to earn an iihs top safety pick plus, including a good rating in the small overlap front crash test. (the insurance institute for highway safety is a lobbying organization for the auto-insurance industry.)  though still called a minivan, there is nothing mini about the modern minivan. The honda odyssey, toyota sienna, dodge grand caravan, chrysler town & country, nissan quest, and kia sedona are big passenger vehicles, most stretching past 16 1/2 feet in overall length. A minivan often handles better and is generally more space and fuel-efficient. The odyssey is less expensive than a luxury suv, gets better fuel economy, and has more cargo room, with greater flexibility in how the space is configured. Odyssey's third-row seats set a new standard in legroom, with as much space as the front seats in a cadillac escalade or even the odyssey itself.  the honda 248-hp v6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission lead the class in fuel economy without lagging in performance.  comfort and poise are excellent, even with six large people on board. Six airbags including three-row side curtains are standard. Dodge grand caravan and nissan quest are the primary alternatives to the honda and toyota. lineupall 2014 honda odyssey models use a 248-hp 3. 5-liter v6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive and have a 3500-pound tow rating. The only mechanical differences among them are wheel material and size.  odyssey lx 28,825) seats seven on cloth upholstery. Ex-l is offered with rear entertainment or navigation, but not both: an ex-l with res 37,225) adds the rear-entertainment system (res) with 9-inch screen, wireless headphones/jacks and a 115-vac outlet. Lanewatch, lane departure warning, forward collision warning and blind-spot monitors are standard on some versions. walkaroundthe honda odyssey got longer and wider in its 2011 revision, resulting in good aerodynamics.  odyssey's refreshed styling adds new premium elements for 2014. Highlights include new black-trimmed headlights, new fog lights, a more muscular-looking hood, a black-surround grille, new body-color side mirrors, more bright trim, revised rear styling, and led taillights with clear lenses. Weight savings come from the use of aluminum for the hood, front fenders and front suspension lower control arms. The lx model features 17-inch steel wheels with premium covers, while ex and ex-l models utilize 17-inch premium aluminum alloy wheels. The grille and headlamps appear to be a cross between the honda insight and civic, and toyota sienna. Odyssey's looks are somewhat daring by class standards, but boxy minivan architecture, function and mission all conspire to limit styling. They call it the lightning-bolt look, a bit of an exaggeration, but it does break up the monotony and improves the view from the third row.  the front and rear door handles are paired in a mild recess, almost reminiscent of a rolls-royce with rear-hinged rear doors. The sliding doors and hatch can be opened with the touch of a button.  the roofline looks something like a tent pulled taut over a stake, similar to that of the acura mdx, or even the late mercedes r-class. Taillights use clear lens signals with amber bulbs for visual pop without the expense of led lamps. A spoiler atop the hatch is standard, and the power tailgate (ex-l and above) has pinch protection. Roof rails are a dealer accessory.  it may look the same as a previous year but the 2014 odyssey has a revised body structure underneath for improved crash and rollover protection. At this writing no van has tested better. interiorthe odyssey lx seats seven, and all other models seat eight. We found it roomier and more comfortable than any suv including a long-wheelbase cadillac escalade. With the third-row folded it grows to 93 cubic feet, and with the second row down there's a breathtaking 148. 5 cubic feet of cargo space. A 4x8-foot sheet of plywood will go flat on the floor, and 10-foot-long 2x4s will even fit, between the front seats when the center console is removed. The floors are lower than they are on suvs, so loading is easy. The lazy susan-like cargo area under the second-row floor carries a space-saver spare tire. With the third-row seats in place, a well contains groceries instead of allowing them to roll all over the place as they do in most suvs.  high-quality cloth upholstery is used in the lx and ex, leather in the other three models, with carpeting and soft-touch panels above the muddy foot zone. The odyssey is full of useful bins and good ideas. Some others' wood-grain trims and leathers may be fancier, but no more functional and no better assembled. 2013 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned sedans and coupes set high bar for midsize class. introductionthe 2013 accord represents the ninth generation of the nameplate. The 2013 honda accord has a new platform, engine, transmissions, suspension, bodywork, interior, electronics and safety equipment. It is appropriate it to call it a new car.  reversing a common trend, the 2013 honda accord is smaller on the outside and, by total volume, smaller on the inside. However, dimensionally the cabin is bigger in every measure except front-seat hiproom. Fuel economy ratings are very competitive. The v6 engine is mildly revised from 2012 and available with a new 6-speed automatic or, on coupe only, a 6-speed manual. It isn't about being the fastest in a straight line or flattest around the corners but rather being well-rounded and doing everything better than average.  we find the new wrapper far more attractive than the last one. It's neither as dramatic as some nor as bland as others, honda preferring proven middle ground to extreme. The 2013 accord has advanced in crash safety and, given the performance of the sister-car acura tl, is expected to get top safety scores.  this ninth-generation accord will not dominate the market it and the camry battled over for decades because there are now many more viable competitors. The ford fusion may take the design mantle away from the hyundai sonata and kia optima, but hyundai has a genesis coupe to compete with accord. The nissan altima lineup includes a coupe, and the altima sedan is new for 2013 and touts excellent epa ratings, as does the roomy volkswagen passat tdi introduced for 2012. The chevrolet malibu is new for 2013, and a new mazda 6 is expected for 2013. Drivers who want more space, performance or features might also look to a nissan maxima or toyota avalon. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard on accord lx and ex; a cvt continuously variable transmission 800) is available for lx, sport and ex models and comes standard on ex-l. A 278-hp 3. 5-liter v6 is available only at higher trim levels; the v6 comes exclusively with a 6-speed automatic. The 2013 accord coupe lx-s, ex and ex-l are 2. 4-liter with 6-speed manual or cvt. Accord ex coupe adds touch-screen audio and fog lights to lx-s coupe.  accord ex-l sedan 27,995) is cvt only and adds to ex with leather upholstery, lane departure and forward collision warnings, driver memory system, touch-screen audio, hondalink/aha telematics, 360-watt 7-speaker stereo, xm radio, auto-dimming inside mirror, led tail lights, multi-angle rearview camera and heated front seats. Navigation 2,000) is optional. Accord ex-l coupe adds lanewatch plus most ex-l sedan upgrades.  accord ex-l v6 sedan 30,070) adds the 278-hp v6 engine and 6-speed automatic and adds led daytime running lights, power passenger seat, homelink, and dual exhaust. Navigation is optional 2,000). Accord ex-l v6 coupe adds 18-inch alloy wheels, driver seat memory system, led daytime running lights, homelink, and dual exhaust. Where the window line on many cars extends from the top of the hood to the top of the trunk, the accord's runs more from the headlight cut-line to the top of the tail lights. This yields not only a credible sedan profile but also adds to the airy cabin spaciousness and proper rear-seat headroom. From overhead the center section is mildly barrel-shaped, the widest point where front and rear doors meet appearing pointed relative the smooth lines of the roof above it.  there's a mild forward tilt to the profile, enhanced by the scalloped front door panels and raked headlight housings. Viewed from behind, the front wheel opening is inset above the sill and shows some tire, an image we associate more with sports cars than family sedans: it adds to appeal though we didn't get to see any potential dirtying effect it will have in rain or snow. Rear doors look like long-wheelbase versions of some sedans, with an almost flat section at the top and opening that runs straight from the door sill to the window kink popularized by bmw and hofmeister about half a century past.  the coupe is nicely proportioned and like the sedan uses a higher than average roofline over the back seat for better-than-normal rear seat room. Unlike the sedan the tail lights do not extend into the trunk lid, and the chrome lower molding is much wider. A more attractive honeycomb lower grille and chrome strip at the bottom edge are handsome without being edgy. Coupes get a more pronounced center section, honeycomb grilles top and bottom, and round fog lights in squared openings for more attitude; it's the same width as the sedan, just an inch lower. The headlight housings and upper grille get blue accents, the hood, bumper and fog light apertures are different, and a black bar bisects the big single grille opening as on many audis. The wheels are also gloss-black, with forward-climbing metal spokes, a sinister look more rapper than tree-hugger. A very obvious blue-ringed, hybrid-badged charging port in the left-front fender is at odds with the square fuel door at the back; we prefer the chevrolet volt's approach of one discrete opening on each side.  at the rear a chrome strip across the trunk and clear backup/signal lenses separate trunk lid and rear window from the back of the car, the end result reminiscent of a hyundai genesis. A small lip spoiler on the accord phev and sport versions can be ad. AM/FM✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Power Mirrors✔ Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ Bluetooth✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels

2012 honda odyssey review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Best handling and most efficient of the big vans. introductionthe honda odyssey is about function and making family life easier. It can carry 4x8 plywood flat on the floor, with 10-foot-long boards can be stacked on them, extending between the front seats when the convenient removable console is taken out. For 2012, the only change, besides a new color, is that the 2012 honda odyssey ex gets some of the fancy electronic equipment previously reserved for the odyssey ex-l.  though still called a minivan, there is nothing mini about the modern minivan. The honda odyssey, nissan quest, toyota sienna, and chrysler town & country are big passenger vehicles. For many uses, and especially for carrying people, a honda odyssey or one of its competitors makes more sense than a full-size sport-utility or crossover. A minivan handles better, is roomier, and is more fuel-efficient than an suv does.  the odyssey is less expensive than a luxury suv, gets better fuel economy, and has more cargo room, with greater flexibility in how the space is configured. Odyssey's third-row seats set a new standard in legroom, with as much space as the front seats in a cadillac escalade or even the odyssey itself.  the honda v6 engine leads the class in fuel economy and delivers 248 horsepower. Honda is a leader in engine development and the odyssey's v6 is smooth.  comfort and poise are excellent, even with six large people on board. Six airbags including three-row side curtains are standard. The odyssey leads its class in safety ratings, with 5 stars from nhtsa and top safety pick from iihs. The re-engineered chrysler town & country is an eight-seat rival. lineupall 2012 honda odyssey models use a 248-hp 3. 5-liter v6 engine, automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The only mechanical differences among them are wheels, tires and the number of transmission speeds.  odyssey lx 28,225) seats seven on cloth upholstery and uses a 5-speed automatic transmission. It's still plus or minus a couple inches of its competitors in every measure. The grille and headlamps appear to be a cross between the honda insight and civic, and toyota sienna. Odyssey's looks are somewhat daring, but boxy minivan architecture, function and mission all conspire to limit styling. They call it the lightning-bolt look, a bit of an exaggeration, but it does break up the monotony and improves the view from the third row.  the front and rear door handles are paired in a mild recess, almost reminiscent of a rolls-royce with rear-hinged rear doors. The power sliding doors can be opened without having to shift to park first, sometimes useful but not a good idea to do so, especially with kids.  the roofline looks something like a tent pulled taut over a stake, similar to that of the acura mdx, or even the mercedes r-class. Taillights use clear lens signals with amber bulbs for visual pop, without the expense of led lamps. A spoiler atop the hatch is standard, and the power tailgate (ex-l and above) has pinch protection. The odyssey is full of useful bins and good ideas. The toyota's swooshy woodgrain interior is fancier (and it has dual gloveboxes), but the controls aren't as simple or logical as they are in the odyssey, and that's a big thing.  the major gauges are easy to see through the steering wheel, which can be tilted and telescoped. Center vents frame the climate controls, including a sync button to match all the zones, while audio and navigation controls are lower. Adjustable pedals are unavailable. Tall drivers might find their right leg resting sharply against the center tunnel.  the odyssey chassis uses active noise cancellation and active engine mounts to minimize vibration. In the middle row, any noise comes from the sliding door, and in the third row it comes from the rear tires. We found it is easy to carry on a normal conversation at freeway speeds.  the view out the windshield from the rear seats is very good, with tidy pillars and front headrests. Having six passengers in back will be more of an issue, because the center shoulder belts anchor in the roof on opposite sides. Upper models have parking sensors, multi-view rear camera and blind-spot warning, but in the rearview mirror, the driver can see through the right rear anyhow, unlike some suvs with thick pillars.  there's a whopping 40. 9 inches of legroom in the second row. 2013 honda fit review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Excellent handling and performance. introductionthe honda fit is practical, economical, and roomy. It's also the most enjoyable to drive of the subcompacts.  new for 2013 the fit ev electric vehicle joins the lineup. Otherwise, the fit carries into the 2013 model year unchanged. The current-generation fit was launched as a 2009 model, and the styling was revised for 2012.  honda fit's 1. 5-liter engine is smooth and powerful, impressive for an engine that small. It's rated at 117 horsepower at a high-revving 6600 rpm, with 106 foot-pounds of torque at 4800 rpm. This sport mode is meant for sports car-like driving, which the fit likes. The 5-speed manual gearbox, meanwhile, is tight and fun, with a clutch that's easy to use. We recommend it for driving enthusiasts. All models come with vehicle stability assist (vsa).  fuel mileage for the 2013 honda fit is epa-rated at 28/35 mpg city/highway with the 5-speed automatic, or 27/33 mpg with the 5-speed manual.  underway, the honda fit feels like a bigger car, partly because the dashboard is long, to accommodate the raked windshield, and partly because there's so much legroom in the front, again thanks to that rake. Thanks to the expansive greenhouse and big mirrors, there's excellent visibility in all directions, including out the vertical and unobstructed rear glass.  with its wedge-shaped front end, the fit has a presence that reaches beyond its subcompact status. Its size is just right for many drivers. It's easy to park and maneuver and inside is an amazingly configurable interior, helped by what honda calls the magic seat. The second row of seats can be folded and flattened for carrying cargo, and the front passenger seat slides way forward and reclines way back, creating a long space from dashboard to liftgate that can hold a kayak.  the black cloth seats are wonderful, upholstered in a smooth comfortable material that's pleasing to the touch, and the bolstering is just right, with excellent cornering support. In fact, the seats would work in a sports car. Lots of cubbies and cupholders make everyday driving convenient. Rear legroom is roomier than that of the toyota yaris, mazda2, and ford fiesta.  the fit is relatively expensive among subcompacts. We found the 2013 fit ev fizzy, fun and fast. But it's not available in most of the country. In fact, even in california and oregon, the only states where the car is being marketed to date, it can only be leased, at a price of $389 per month over a three-year term, which computes to a manufacturer's suggested retail price (msrp) of $36,625. Availability will expand to the east coast in early 2013, the company says. lineupbesides the all-electric model, the 2013 honda fit comes in two models with three trim variations: fit, fit sport, and fit sport with navigation. The primary differences are in standard equipment and technology upgrades. New for 2012 was console ambient lighting and body-colored exterior mirrors.  fit sport upgrades with new dark-machined-finish 16-inch alloy wheels, new black headlight bezels, and a new and unique design for the front grille and bumper. Lower body flares, a security system with keyless entry, leather-wrapped steering wheel, two more stereo speakers, map lights, fog lights, and other amenities are included. The sport comes with a 5-speed manual 17,060) or 5-speed automatic transmission with sport mode and paddle shifters 17,910). Fit sport with navi comes only with the 5-speed automatic with paddle shifters 19,690). For 2013, the navi model also comes with bluetooth phone and audio links.  fit ev 36,625, lease only) comes standard with a cvt transmission that uses honda's three-mode dynamic electric drive system. The ev has a different front end and fascia from the other models, as well as a full flat underbody panel and a redesigned rear spoiler and lower fascia.  safety features on all models include include front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, seat belt pretensioners, active front head restraints, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), and vsa electronic stability control. walkaroundwith its wedge-shaped front end, the honda fit has a presence that reaches beyond its subcompact status. It wears red well, and is especially eye-catching and sporty in that color.  there's very little nose. What there is drops steeply from the a-pillars, which are raked radically down from the roof, hitting the fenders above the middle of the front tires. The roof has a very subtle arc, back to the small spoiler over the rear window on the sport model, and again the lines speak a graceful language. The window outline is like an elongated horizontal teardrop.  the sides are a bit blocky, and the rear a lot blocky. Sills on the sport make it look almost too low, and make the 16-inch wheels look small. The ground clearance is zilch, something to keep in mind over sharp driveway transitions and in snow.  viewed head-on, all the angles are directed inward. The headlights have sharp inside points like exotic eyes, beginning just under the upper sharp corners of the tidy classy grille; on sport models the horizontal air intake below the bumper stretches outward at the bottom corners, to balance the grille.  honda calls the fit a five-door, and not a hatchback. While europeans love them, americans generally don't like the idea of hatchbacks, although we detect those attitudes may be mellowing.  from the front three-quarter view, the fit is more striking than the ford fiesta, mazda2 and toyota yaris because of the sharpness of the nose and the mini-wagon body shape. It doesn't have their roundness, and looks more like a tiny wagon than a five-door. It has a wide low stance, slight fender flares and sharp character lines along the sides. Also competing in this class are the scion xd and kia soul, boxy, tall subcompacts.  from the rear, the fit's liftgate is like that of a mini suv.  the chassis structure, called ace (advanced compatibility engineering), is designed to enhance crash integrity. The frame rails are polygon-shaped and computer designed to disperse the forces of crash impact all around the car, upward and downward, instead of allowing them to be jammed at the occupants. The bowed crossmember under the dashboard plays a role. From the driver's seat, it feels like a bigger car than it is. That's due partly to space efficiency, partly to the raked windshield and deep dashboard, partly to the acres of legroom.  the black cloth seats that come standard are wonderful. It's a smooth comfortable material that's pleasing to the touch, and the bolstering is just right, with excellent cornering support. They'd work in a sports car.  thanks to the expansive greenhouse and big mirrors, there's excellent visibility in all directions, including out the vertical and unobstructed rear glass. But especially through the large windshield. With so little distance between the bottom of the a-pillar and the front bumper, and with that sloped nose, the driver can't see the front corners of the car, but bumping into things is unlikely because the distance to them is so short.  the a-pillar was made especially thin, and those triangular windows just behind the a pillar are as big as possible, largely for driving in japan, with all its tight spaces and pedestrian crosswalks. But that big windshield is nice here in america, too. There are also two cupholders forward of the shift lever on the floor, and two more for the rear seat passengers. And two gloveboxes, enabling cleaner organization.  there are comfortable usable armrests on the front doors for the driver and passenger, and flip-up armrests between the front seats. 2012 honda odyssey review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Best handling and most efficient of the big vans. introductionthe honda odyssey is about function and making family life easier. It can carry a family of eight, or half a high-school soccer team, with all their coolers, balls, tents, shoes, whatever. It can tow a small trailer with a motorcycle or watercraft. It can carry 4x8 plywood flat on the floor, with 10-foot-long boards can be stacked on them, extending between the front seats when the convenient removable console is taken out. Best of all, it's loaded with conveniences designed to simplify life.  the honda odyssey was thoroughly redesigned and re-engineered for the 2011 model year, marking a new generation of one of america's favorite multi-purpose vehicles. Roof rails are a dealer accessory. interiorthe odyssey lx seats seven, and all other models seat eight. We found it roomier and more comfortable than any suv including a long-wheelbase cadillac escalade. With the third-row folded it grows to 93 cubic feet, and with the second row down there's a breathtaking 148. 5 cubic feet. A 4x8-foot sheet of plywood will go flat on the floor, and 10-foot-long 2x4s will even fit, between the front seats when the center console is removed. The floors are lower than they are on suvs, so loading is easy. The lazy susan-like cargo area under the floor carries a spacesaver spare tire.  high-quality cloth upholstery is used in the lx and ex, leather in the other three models, with carpeting and soft-touch panels above the muddy foot zone. The odyssey is full of useful bins and good ideas. The middle section slides forward for. AM/FM✔ Power Locks✔ Power Windows✔ Power Mirrors✔ Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ Bluetooth✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels
